Then, we head back to 19th century France for the second half of The Bank’s second generation. The family sundered by a brother and sister’s rivalry and hatred in the first two volumes have begun mending some fences, but it’s a long process, and History may not give them much time, as it barrels towards the tragic events of the Paris Commune and the restoration in blood of law and order.
